Registered Nurse (RN)

Hemophilia Nurse Coordinator, Hemophilia and Bleeding Disorders Position Background:
- The Hemophilia Center of Western New York is a part of a nationwide network of hemophilia diagnostic and treatment centers. The goal of hemophilia treatment centers are to provide a range of comprehensive services for patients and families with bleeding disorders to one facility. Today, there are about 141 federally funded treatment centers across the country.
- The concept of comprehensive care is to treat the whole person and family, through continuous supervision of all the medical and psychosocial aspects of bleeding disorders.
- The hematologists, nurses, social workers, psychosocial professionals, and physical therapist not only help consumers with their medical care issues, but also lend tremendous emotional support.
- Many people with bleeding disorders use the resources of their hemophilia treatment center (HTC) for many years because the staff understands their unique needs.
- Individuals who go to Hemophilia Treatment Centers (HTCs) will not only find state of the art medical care, but also benefit from an experienced, caring staff that takes time to develop comprehensive treatment care plans for patients and families.
Position Description:
- Full time; Monday-Friday 8:00-4:00 pm
- No Weekends/ No Holidays

* Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and the equivalent of (3-5) years of full-time medical-surgical experience in an acute care setting in both pediatrics and adults.
* License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York.
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing
* Current CPR Certification

* Delivers nursing interventions to assigned patients that are consistent with stated medical plan of care utilizing the nursing process to assess, implement, and record patients’ response in the medical record.
* Provides patient education and documents patients’ response in medical record.
* Proficiency in electronic medical record documentation.

* Performing procedures such as IV placement, phlebotomy, and medication administration via peripheral line, PICC line, or Port.
* Participates in the recommendation of policy and/or procedural changes according to nursing expertise.
* Procuring and providing care for pediatric and adult patients with hemophilia and bleeding disorders.
* Triaging phone calls about health related issues.
* Ensuring that appropriate clinic appointments and lab tests are arranged.
* Coordinating management/orders for surgical procedures.
* Teaching patients with hemophilia to self-infuse factor concentrates.
* Travel opportunities to conferences and meetings available.
