Job Description:

Erie County Medical Center Corporation is seeking full-time Hospital Public Safety Assistants!

The work involves assisting in providing a safe environment for employees, visitors and individuals being treated and security for the facilities of the Erie County Medical Center Corporation or any of the offsite facilities or programs. The incumbent patrols clinical areas and monitors individuals, activities and areas to identify and prevent safety violations and other disorders. In accordance with the New York State Office of Mental Health, the incumbent provides a safe environment for those patients diagnosed with mental illness or considered dangerous to themselves or others and assists in the implementation of treatment goals through positive therapeutic interactions with patients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; and Completion of a minimum of sixty (60) semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a major in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Police Science, Human Services or Mental Health Assistant or closely related field; or: Two (2) years of experience as a security guard in a healthcare, educational or public safety environment; or: Two (2) years of experience as a Mental Health Aide or Mental Health Assistant.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Citizenship; Possession and maintenance of a valid New York State Driver’s License at time of appointment; Possession and maintenance of Registration as a Security Guard by the New York State Department of State, Division of Licensing Services at time of appointment; Possession and maintenance of Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification before completion of the probationary period; Completion of the New York State Office of Mental Health Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations Training as provided by a New York State authorized training agency before completion of the probationary period.

Starting pay is $17.22 /hr. This a varied shift that includes weekends and holidays.
