General Responsibilities:
To provide students with required support based on their English language needs. Prepare instructional materials, administer and grade students’ assessments, create individualized plans for students with special requirements (e.g. learning disabilities). Continue to research new teaching methods for teaching English as a second language. Create a supportive and positive classroom environment. Maintain records of student attendance and grades. Resolve crises in the classroom. Inform parents about student progress. Collaborate with educational staff to provide a positive learning experience for students.
1. Provide instruction in appropriate academic area.
2. Provide remediation as necessary.
3. Prepare lesson plans and make optimum use of class time to meet stated objectives.
4. Evaluate each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills in academic area of responsibility.
5. Identify pupil needs, and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve attitude, and learning problems.
6. Meet with students in small group setting to discuss school, social and personal concerns.
7. Communicate with parents on individual pupil progress or other areas of concern.
8. Join with other staff members in meeting with parents and students at regularly scheduled grade reporting meetings.
9. Maintain accurate and complete student records.
Job Qualifications
- Must hold valid New York State Teacher Certification in Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
- Previous experience as an ENL teacher or similar role preferred knowledge of varius methods of teaching English to non-native speakers
- Great organizational and communication skills with a calm and resilient personality and ability to work in a special education setting.
- Degree in English Language, English Literature or similar field.
